Site Income
Your web site can generate income all on its own. While you sleep,
your web site could be making money. Other than in exceptional cases
this income will not be very great, but you should be able to generate
more than enough to pay for the costs of operating your web site.
Advertising
Signing up with affiliate programs can bring small amounts of income
from your site. Many companies selling products or offering services
on the internet offer affiliate programs. An affiliate program is
where you sign up with the company offering such and by signing
up you become an 'affiliate'. You are assigned a specific unique
code name. Then you put a link from your web site to theirs, including
that code in the link. They'll usually give you the exact coded
link so all you have to do is copy it onto your web site. Every
time somebody clicks on the link at your site and makes a purchase
at their web site the code informs the company that the customer
came from you and you get paid. Keep in mind that the amount of
money made this way is usually very small: the average escort with
good affiliate linking may make $5 or $10 a month this way. There
are some cautions to affiliate links too:
• It is important not to put so many of these affiliate links
on your site that it loses its focus on you.
• Most affiliate programs that aren't adult-related will not
allow adult-oriented web sites to be affiliates. If you join anyhow
they will not pay you: in their terms of service they have a clause
that they don't pay web sites who don't match their 'accepted profile'.
So make sure you only join affiliate programs that are open to adult
web sites.
• Be selective in what affiliate programs you join: choose
ones that compliment your web site, and who you feel are fair and
honorable, otherwise your reputation could be damaged by association.
Recommended affiliates that DO match your theme, DO allow adult
sites, and DO result in money earned:
• OutPersonals
- the granddaddy dating site for gay men
• JuicyAds
- professional ad placement for adult sites. Has a 'gay' category.
Adult Protection Service
Many escorts have x-rated photos on their site and to avoid angry
emails from outraged parents of teenage sons who were caught looking
at your dirty pictures the photos will be placed behind an entry gate
that requires a code. The easiest way to implement this is by signing
up with an Adult Protection Service, often called Adult Verification
Service, or AVS. The AVS company will pay you every time somebody
signs up to get a code.
There are two major types of AVS systems: pay, and free. Each of
them pays you for every person who signs up with them, but they
operate in different ways.
Pay: A visitor to your site is required to pay a fee to gain a password
that is valid for a specified period of time. This can be a week,
a month, a year, or two years. The days of 'lifetime' passwords
are ancient history. The guy uses his credit card to purchase the
password and then has access to all web sites who use that AVS system.
Some pay AVS systems have a two-tiered program where the basic fee
gives you access to the main general sites, but if the guy pays
the higher premium fee he has access to all the sites in their system.
A web site owner has to meet strict criteria with a high volume
of original, quality content to qualify for the premium level. As
an escort don't even bother trying--it is a lot more work than you
want to invest, and your business is escorting, not showing dirty
pictures. So the guy pays his fee and the AVS gives you a percentage
of it. This ranges from 30% to 60%. The one catch to this is that
if a visitor to your site already bought a password at another member
site they can just use their password to go in and you get nothing,
but that's fair because the reverse will happen some day on their
site!
Free: A visitor to your site clicks on the AVS link and is taken
to a signup page. They are required to provide a credit card number
as ID, and also because it is assumed that generally only adults
have credit cards. Nothing is charged to their credit card and they
are given a password. The catch is that in the signup text (which
very few guys read--they're in too big of a rush) it says that they
are also being given 3 days of free access to a premium pay web
site that the AVS company owns, and at the end of 3 days unless
they have cancelled their free pay site access their card will be
charged (usually a pricey fee, such as $45) every month until such
time as they do cancel. Because so many guys just don't read the
AVS company does get quite a few of those pay site charges and that
is how they make their money. Whether or not the guy cancelled before
the 3 free days were up you will get paid. It is usually a flat
fee, such as $20. Just as with the pay sites some guys will visit
your site who have a password they got elsewhere. Free passwords
are generally valid for one year, and you hope when it expires they
renew it on your site!
There are pros and cons to both systems. A con to both is that due
to the volume of fraud and scams operating on the internet many
guys are shy to sign up at all for fear that they might see all
sorts of unwanted charges on their credit card. You can assure them
that this isn't true with AVS companies. AVS companies are making
a very good income operating their systems and the last thing they're
going to do is ruin their steady stream of money by getting in legal
trouble by engaging in fraud or running a scam. Most AVS companies
have been around for several years now so have a long history of
business operation that can be reassuring.
Other issues with pay and free services:
• some guys are cost-conscious: the word 'free' will get their
attention, but they will pass when asked to pay a fee to see your
x-rated photos. Free systems win.
• the fewer sites that have the AVS you use the less likely
your visitor already has a password, so the more likely he will
have to get it at your site. Overall, more of the free systems are
smaller and less used. Free systems win.
• The larger, more established AVS's have advertising to bring
in more customers and since they list all member sites on their
own directory it can bring more visitors to your web site. Pay systems
win.
Here we provide links to a few of the many AVS's available on the
web.
