Your Domain Name
A Site To Call Your
Own
www.yourname.com is a lot more memorable than www.hostsite.com/theirserver/yourname/yourpage.html.
Also, it presents a much better image. If you have your own web site
it says you are much more serious about business, that you invest
time into your own business. You also have a lot more flexibility
in what you can do with your site. Shop around. The prices for web
domains vary by about $30 between the high end and the economical
end! Network Solutions is the granddaddy of domain names, but you're
wasting your money if you pay their hefty fee because the product
sold is exactly the same at lower priced locations. But be careful:
there are ultra-cheap domain sellers who have fine print in their
sale contract that you must host with them. So be cautious about offers
for 'free' or heavily discounted domain names. Another catch they
use is that you have the domain to use for one year but they own it
and when its time to renew suddenly the price is astronomical.
EscortX.net can offer you domains at very reasonable prices and with
no strings attached. While we would love to provide you with hosting
as well there are no requirements of such.
What's In A Name?
So how do you choose your domain name? The most common thing to do
is to use your working name as your web site name, and it makes a
lot of sense as it is helping to enforce and build your 'brand' name.
So if you're using a pseudonym it is doubly important to choose a
good one. Although it sounds utterly boring for an escort name, William
Jones is a good name for use with a web site because it can't be misspelled
very easily. Guys will have no problem typing in www.williamjones.com.
Sean Johnston is a horrible working name. Do they type www.shawnjohnson.com,
www.seanjohnstone.com, www.shawnjohnston.com . . . The
possibilities are numerous. Another direction I've suggested to guys,
particularly those who only use a first name is to just add an 'x'
to their name: devinx.com.
Never abbreviate your working name. William Jones should never use
the name "Bill" or he's suddenly creating possible confusion
over what his URL may be.
Here's some tips on choosing a web domain name:
• as noted above, make sure
it's a name that doesn't have variable spellings.
• try to keep it short and simple
• unless you have solid roots
where you live, don't pick something with a city name in it
• never select a domain name
with dashes in it. They're very hard to explain when giving out
your web address on the phone.
• .com remains the most common
extension and the one that people default to, so it is your first
choice.
• if you're trying to promote
your nationality or if .com is already taken, go with your country
code (two letters to represent your country)
• don't fall for the trick of
buying into 'new' domain exttensions: .xxx .club
.shop .love .ltd .sport etc. These extensions
do not configure normally as their zone files need to be adjusted
so they frequently cause problems in web host servers. Thus you
will have a very difficult time locating a web host who is willing
to provide you with service. EsoortX.net does not accept any of
the 'new' extensions on our servers. We recommend you stick with
the extensions we sell or any 2-letter country extension since all
are univerally accepted.
How Long?
When you 'purchase' a domain you're actually just buying a lease
on it, one that must be paid every year. Or, with most resellers
you can get a discount if you purchase multiple years. We offer
domain name sales for up to 10 years at a time and the savings are
noteworthy. Weigh the savings vs. the likelihood of you continuing
to use the domain for that many years and make a decision that suits
your needs best.
Public Records
When you purchase your domain name you will be required to provide
your name, address, phone number, and a valid email address. All
of these appear in the public directory known as the 'whois' directory
of who owns what domain. EscortX.net and many other sellers offer
privacy from that by letting you purchase your domains through proxy
for an extra fee (which is paid to the proxy holder).
What Is That?
Automatically the seller you buy from will input server records
as you go through the registration process. The server records 'point'
towards their web host of choice. You can easily change them on
the spot if you have already chosen a different web host and have
their server records to enter. Our clients find it convenient to
buy their domains through us since this means the server records
are already set to point to our servers and saves the job of having
to enter them in.
