Egroups & Forums
Egroups are places on the web where people
join together to discuss a particular topic. Because they have no
direct connection to individual web sites, many of the members do
not have a web site which makes them very popular since that means
anyone can join. They are specifically called Egroups because the
discussion is generally conducted via email. Each member has the ability
to post or reply to messages and what is written will get automatically
emailed to all members. Many egroups have space on the web where the
past messages are stored in chronological order so some members in
those groups will elect to not receive their messages by email and
instead will log onto the web page and read the messages.
Forums are similar to egroups except that the discussion takes place
completely on organized web pages. Any member can start a 'thread',
as a new topic is called, and then any other members responding to
that thought will have their message posted below. The advantage is
that all thoughts on a particular topic are kept together in an organized
fashion.
Every egroup and forum has its own protocol and it is wise to avoid
posting very much for the first week you are a member until you get
a chance to observe the protocol. Also, look for rules. Many egroups
and forums have a brief 'rules' listing that explains what is allowed.
There are some basics that are common to all egroups and forums though:
• Never type in all caps. That is the internet equivalent of
'yelling' and offends many.
• If promoting your service, don't repeat your promotion more
than once every three or four weeks. When you do repeat it, make sure
you have changed what you are saying so it doesn't come across as
boring and repetitive.
• Make sure that you are only posting thoughts that are on the
topic. Every egroup or forum has a topic or range of topics it covers.
Anything posted off topic is the egroup/forum equivalent of SPAM and
can get you evicted and banned.
• Just as on your web site, watch your grammar, spelling and
capitalization. Even if others in the group use poorly constructed
sentences don't do it yourself. You want to be seen as a quality professional.
• Be polite to everyone in the group. Even if somebody is rude
or takes cheap shots at you, don't respond in kind. Everyone will
label you based on how you behave in the group. It is possible to
politely respond and denounce somebody who is saying unkind things
to/about you. Maintain your professionalism.
• When you reply to a message, trim off all the excess stuff:
the advertising that the host web site attached to it, the footer
messages, etc. But leave enough of the original message so that readers
of your reply have a clue what you're talking about.
• If you are making a more personal reply, or a very short thought
that is directed only at the author, "Your posting was excellent
and I agree totally.", etc. don't post it--everybody doesn't
need an extra email that is just a personal message. Send it directly
to the member who wrote it and save the rest of the group members
the aggravation of having to delete your cute little message.
• Should you decide you want to cease membership in a group,
don't show yourself to be lacking in brain-cells. Do NOT send a message
to the group telling them you want to leave the group. What are they
going to do? They're just members like you and will just delete your
message and think, "jeez, they're dumb". The home page of
every group, and the footer message on most groups emails give the
email address to write to if you want to unsubscribe. In many egroups
it is unsubscribe@YOUR_GROUPS_NAME.
Egroups For Escorts
•Escorts
Online Another group for escorts to promote themselves to clients.
Just make sure that you don't abuse it: if you're promoting yourself
to a group like this more than twice in one month you're going to
start seeing postings from other members slamming you unless you truly
do have some 'news' about yourself to promote. With over 500 members
this group is surprisingly inactive. This group was started by the
owners of www.escortsusa.com.
• Gay
Male Escorts Another group for escorts to promote themselves to
clients (read Escorts Online description). An advantage of this group
over others of its kind is that all emails are approved by moderators
before posted so all those annoying 'advertising' ones from spam artists
don't get through. A lot of work for the moderators because it is
active and has well over a thousand members. Not terribly active,
but more importantly the members do appear to pay attention to what
escorts post here. One of the best groups to be in.
• Pinoy
Gay Info Board No info collected on this egroup yet.
All of the egroups listed above are on Yahoo! But that doesn't mean
Yahoo! is the only place to find egroups. Go to the home page of any
egroup site and do a search for escort groups. Here are some egroup
homes:
• Google
• Windows
Live
• Yahoo!
Forums For Escorts
Sadly, the three forums we had been aware of have each either ceased
operation or evolved into something else. If you are aware of a current
forum on escorting we'd love to know about it--just email
us. |
