Local Print Advertising
There are two key locations to look at in your local print advertising:
gay and straight. In smaller communities there may be only one of
each. In larger communities there will be multiple choices which
makes it harder to decide where to place your ad. Do you feel it
is worthwhile to advertise in all the options in your area, or just
some. If you don't do all of them, which ones do you choose? The
answers aren't always easy, and you often will end up learning through
trial and error what your best mix is.
In the gay market it is easy to identify your advertising possibilities:
you know what your local gay press has to offer. Just flip to the
back and see if they have escorting ads. If they do, it's an option
to consider. In the straight press your choices are more difficult
to define and you may need to spend quite a bit of time locating
and hunting through various papers. Usually, however, your best
choice in the straight press is your arts & entertainment newspaper.
In most areas that will be a tabloid-size free weekly. The newspaper
whose focus is on theatre, arts, and social issue discussions. Not
only are they the most likely to accept escort ads, but their audience
is the most likely to be interested in hiring an escort.
Don't know the name of, or how to contact, the local gay paper?
Or maybe you're planning a trip to another city and want to place
an ad in their paper? Unfortunately the only attempt I can find
at a listing covers only Canada and the United States, and as well
it is rather out of date. But there still is quite a bit of useful
information. You can visit the web site HERE.
Or, if you're interested in advertising on radio, TV, etc. (something
that is done with extreme rarity by escorts), try looking at THIS
list. Happily it offers worldwide listings and seems to be much
more current.
What is better than paid advertising? Free advertising! If you can
get the media interested in you, so that they want to do a profile
story about you, you've got it made. Some of the best promotions
have been done by someone who made themselves a media-desired comodity
so that they were given coverage for free. The delicate issue here
is that you cannot have anywhere near full control of the message,
so caution must be used to only work with media whom are certain
will present you in a positive light.
One of your most likely prospects for gaining free media exposure
is if there is a local sex-talk show. Find a specific topic relating
to sex that you are familiar and comfortable with, then make contact
with the shows host or producer and let them know that you have
interest in appearing and exactly what topic you would like to share
on. A show of this nature is usually eager to find new guests and
will be welcoming as long as your idea is well thought out and you
present it professionally so they know you will be a good on-air
guest.
