Other Local Ads
Newspaper ads aren't the only thing you can do locally--and definitely
are not the only thing you should do. There are a variety of other
tools at your disposal to promote your advertising and business
promotion.
Business Cards
Do you have business cards? You should! On the internet you can
order classy looking cards that are free (with their promo on the
back) or very economical (no promo) from VistaPrint,
or visit your local office supply store where you can get cards
printed up ranging from extremely economical (plain black text)
to modestly priced fancier designs. Give your business cards to
clients. Hand them out in clubs. There are a number of uses for
them, and they help create the professional image.
Gay Community Center & Other Local Ad Posting Spots
Most gay communities have a bulletin board somewhere (often in the
gay community center) where people can post ads free of charge.
Use desktop publishing to print up a classy looking sign promoting
your business. Don't know how? Get a friend to do it, or pay someone--it's
a few bucks for a class look! Get the sign laminated on heavy card,
then use a silicon glue to adhear an acrylic business card holder.
Place it on the bulletin board.
Talk with gay club owners. Some of them have places where postings
can be made. Use them in a similar way--but only after getting permission.
You want to maintain a good relationship and reputation with club
owners/managers!
Hotels
Get aquainted with the concierge at finer hotels. You'd be amazed
how often hotel guests make discreet inquiries of the concierge.
And part of keeping their guests happy and satisfied is having the
right information to share with them. Give them the information--it's
you!
Local Gay Business Association
Does your local gay business association publish a directory? For
a modest annual fee you can join the association and get listed.
And here's something even more important: many business associations
are able to offer their members group rates on health insurance,
which means huge savings to have excellent health care coverage.
Yellow Pages
Yep--the traditional way for a professional escort to advertise.
Don't forget that they are still around--and especially popular
in hotels. If you find the price prohibitive, find another escort
you can take out a small display ad listing both your names/phone
numbers (if it's a display ad you can list two numbers). That way
you can split the cost.
Get Creative
Back in the late 1980's Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida had
just added a huge tower to their facility and wanted to promote
their newly expanded capabilities. The head of their marketing department
ordered a bolt of bright red heavy fabric and hired some workers
to wrap it around near the top of the tower, tying the ends of it
in a giant bow. The net result: they were the lead news story on
all local channels at 6:00 that day. They got coverage that no amount
of money could have bought, and it probably cost them only a few
hundred dollars!
Don't let liniar thinking keep you from coming up with all sorts
of ways to promote yourself.
